For the last five months, a dedicated group of teachers from Teton County School District #1 and Red Top Meadows have met to do “action research”. Action research is a process in which teachers or principals examine their own educational practice systematically and carefully using the techniques of research.

Action research is based on the following assumptions:
•    Teachers work best on problems they have identified for themselves
•    Teachers become more effective when encouraged to examine and assess their own work and then consider ways of working differently
•    Working with colleagues helps teachers and principals in their professional development

The action research groups are facilitated by Jean Armour Lewis and Andrea Rongey (credit group) and Kathy Milburn and Stephanie Thomas (non-credit group).  The group is funded through a yearlong grant from the state of Wyoming to support professional development focused on increasing academic achievement of diverse students in math and science.

It is the hope of the facilitators that action research will:
•    Increase sharing and collaboration across departments, disciplines, grade levels, and schools
•    Increase dialogue about instructional issues and student learning
•    enhance communication between teachers and students
•    Improve performance of students
•    Inform development of priorities for school wide planning and assessment efforts
•    Contribute to the community’s body of knowledge about teaching and learning

The following teachers and administrators have been involved in Action Research Projects for the past 10 months.
